The United Way Campaign Kick-off Luncheon is held in conjunction with the joined meetings of the Rotary Club of Galveston and the Rotary Club of Galveston Island. “As the United Way Campaign kicks off, we are reminded of what an important role it serves in our community. This effort builds goodwill and friendships as we work to help improve the lives of our neighbors. As the 2016 theme for Rotary International is “Rotary serving humanity” there is a common objective between these two organizations. We are fortunate to have Galvestonians committed to serving our community and its residents to improve the quality of life in our community,” said John Zendt, President of the Rotary Club of Galveston.
Business leaders, community leaders, and all Rotarians are invited to attend this luncheon to mark the beginning of the United Way Fundraising Campaign. Rotary Club of Galveston Island President Rebecca Trout stated, “I believe everyone has a responsibility to give back to their community in the way that is right for them. This is fundamental to Rotary’s philosophy of service above self.”
Each year, the United Way raises funds to improve the health, education and financial stability for every person in Galveston. The funds are invested into island social service programs that provide a comprehensive network of support to islanders in need.
The United Way is uniquely positioned to provide short-term emergency support to those in crisis, and also long-term solutions that can be achieved through counseling, mentoring, and educational support. By focusing on providing basic needs like food and shelter in conjunction with support services that lead individuals and families to self-sufficiency, the United Way is fighting the most daunting issues facing islanders. “Our Galveston United Way is important to me because it helps anyone in need in our community regardless of income, gender, ethnicity or age,” said Mary Ferris, United Way of Galveston Board President.
The United Way Campaign provides an easy way for businesses and their employees to make a big impact on children, families and senior citizens on the Island. Get started by attending the Campaign Kick-off Luncheon on August 31!
