Strengthening nonprofit leadership, systems, and impact across Galveston Island

Coffee & Quality Galveston helps nonprofit organizations strengthen the internal systems that support strong programs, sustainable growth, and measurable community impact.

The program builds on the Coffee & Quality model developed by United Way of Greater Houston. United Way of Galveston is partnering with United Way of Greater Houston to bring this approach to the island while tailoring it specifically for the needs, scale, and realities of the Galveston nonprofit community.

This is the first expansion of Coffee & Quality beyond Houston. Rather than simply replicating the program, we are adapting it thoughtfully for Galveston. Our goal is to create a learning environment that reflects the strengths of our local nonprofit sector while equipping leaders with practical tools to strengthen operations, evaluate impact, and tell their story with confidence.

Coffee & Quality Galveston is supported through major philanthropic investment dedicated to strengthening nonprofit capacity and long-term community impact.

Why Coffee & Quality Matters

Nonprofit organizations across Galveston work every day to address complex challenges in health, education, and financial stability. Strong programs alone are not enough. Organizations also need strong systems.

Coffee & Quality focuses on the behind-the-scenes capabilities that help nonprofits operate effectively and sustain their impact over time. This includes strengthening how organizations:

  • Use data to understand and improve programs
  • Communicate impact to funders and the community
  • Build internal systems that support growth and sustainability
  • Create a culture of learning and continuous improvement

When nonprofit organizations strengthen these systems, they are better positioned to serve our community and respond to emerging challenges.

Program Components

Fellows Program

The Coffee & Quality Fellows Program is an intensive learning experience designed for nonprofit organizations that want to strengthen how they use data, evaluation, and continuous improvement to improve programs and communicate impact.

Participating organizations receive hands-on support, practical tools, and opportunities to apply what they are learning directly to their own work.

Learning Cohort

The Learning Cohort is designed for nonprofit professionals who want to build practical skills in data use, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

Participants learn alongside peers, apply concepts to real organizational challenges, and build confidence using data to support stronger programs and decision-making.

Lunch & Learns and Community Learning

Coffee & Quality also offers stand-alone learning opportunities throughout the year for nonprofit professionals and community partners.

Lunch & Learns and other community learning events provide practical, accessible opportunities to build skills, explore useful tools, and connect with peers across Galveston’s nonprofit sector.

Designed for Galveston

Galveston’s nonprofit sector is distinct. Organizations here operate with deep community relationships, strong local knowledge, and a commitment to collaboration.

Coffee & Quality Galveston reflects those strengths. The program has been shaped in conversation with nonprofit leaders across the island to ensure that the tools, training, and learning opportunities are relevant to the real challenges organizations face.

By combining proven methods with local insight, Coffee & Quality aims to strengthen both individual organizations and the broader nonprofit ecosystem that supports Galveston residents every day.
